AFL stands for Australian Football League. It is a higher level football competition in Australian Rules football. Initially, it was called Victorian Football League, because the competition was held between the teams that belong to Victoria State of Australia. In 1990, the teams from the other states took part in the league and its name has been changed to Australian Football League. The league has an Afl Commission, which acts as a governing body of the sport and controls the rules and laws of the game. The league is played between 18 team from the different regions of Australia, of which majority are from Victoria state. Toyota, a multinational automobile company, is sponsoring the league since 2004.
