Denver Zoo is one of the famous animal park in Denver city of Colorado spread over large piece of land of 80 acres that was opened back in the year 1896 when an orphaned American black bear cub named Billy Bryan was gifted to US politician Thomas S. McMurry who was the mayor of Denver from 1895–1899 and went through several changes in the past years. The zoo runs on the funds provided by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). The zoo is a large zoo containing 3,699 animals of 641 different species as of 2010. The park is visited by a by number of people every year and had an average visitorship of 1.6 million in between 2001 to 2010.
The zoo holds several uncommon species of animals like hoofed mammals, pachyderms, birds, reptiles, carnivorous mammals, primates and fishes.
